Joseph Dries Sr.

Joseph Gries Sr., 64, of 10306 Point Creek Road, in the Town of Meeme, died this morning at St. Nicholas Hospital, where he had been a patient for three days.

Mr. Gries was born Nov. 12, 1918, in the Town of Meeme, son of Joseph and Albertina Schneider Gries.

He attended St. Isidore Catholic School in Osman.

On Nov. 18, 1942, he married Mary Ann Bogenschuetz at St. Wendell Catholic Church in Cleveland. The couple farmed in the Town of Meeme, and later in the Town of Centerville. They returned to the Town of Meeme in 1978. Mrs. Gries died in 1979.

Mr. Gries was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Osman, its Holy Name Society, the Catholic Knights Branch 68 of which he was a former president, and the Cleveland Senior Citizens.

He also served for many years on the board of directors of the Cleveland Dairy Coop.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. James (Joanne) Meves of Sheboygan, Mrs. Wallace (Beatrice) Meyer of School Hill, Mrs. Larry (Geraldine) Brendel of Howards Grove, Mrs. Terry (Diane) Kress of Mill Home, and Mrs. David (Karen) Salm of Newton; two sons, Robert of Sheboygan and Joseph Jr. of rural Newton; 13 grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond of Cleveland, Elmer of Manitowoc, Melvin of rural Manitowoc, and John of Oshkosh; and three sisters, Mrs. Hildegarde Knier of Newton, Mrs. Joseph Riesterer of St. Nazianz, and Mrs. Margaret Binder of Plymouth.

Two sisters preceded him in death.

A funeral Mass will be celebrant at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Isadore Catholic Church in Osman, following brief family rites at 9:15 a.m. at Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. The Rev. Lee Kahrs, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens in Manitowoc.

Friends may call at Meiselwitz Funeral Home after 4 p.m. on Tuesday where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Gries's name.
