Queen of Denmark. Princess of Sweden and (till 1905) Norway. A Bernadotte Dynasty member, her parents were King Carl XV of Sweden (Carl IV of Norway) and Queen Louise, born a princess of the Netherlands (Orange-Nassau Dynasty). Daughter Louise, nicknamed Sessan, was their sole heir and extremely wealthy, and her uncle became King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway when her father died. In 1869 she had married Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, later king Frederik VIII, and then had training in becoming Danish by Norwegian poet Lorentz Dietrichson. She gave birth to 8 children: the future monarchs King Christian X of Denmark and King Haakon VII of Norway as well as Louise of Schaumburg-Lippe, Ingeborg of Sweden, Princes Harald and Gustav, Princess Thyra and Princess Dagmar (Mrs. Castenskiold) of Denmark. Louise has been described as having her father's outgoing personality and her mother's looks. She felt isolated in the big Danish royal family until she had a big family of her own there. She was very religious, a follower of Baron Radstock and Gustaf Emanuel Beskow, with connections to the Inner Mission of Denmark. She and Frederik were Crown Prince and Princess for a long time before they became King and Queen when King Christian IX of Denmark died in 1906.
