Henry "Harry" Wager Halleck, Jr. was the only child of Major General Henry Wager and Elizabeth Hamilton Halleck. A year following his father's death in 1872, Harry went on a trip to Europe with his mother. Eventually his mother married General George W. Cullum. Harry was trained as a lawyer and was living with his mother and step-father at their Newport, Rhode Island home in 1880. Harry never married, and apparently suffered with chronic inflammation of the kidneys [Bright's disease], which eventually took his life.
