World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Hague, The Netherlands, he served as a Captain in the 4th Battalion ,Grenadier Guards, British Army. On April 13, 1918, Captain Pryce had led two platoons in a successful attack on a village at Vieux-Berquin, France. Holding the position with some 40 men, with the rest having become casualties, he beat off four German attacks during the day. By evening the enemy were within 60 yards of his trench, Captain Pryce led a bayonet and drove them back some 100 yards. Down to only seventeen men left and no ammunition, another enemy attack came. He again led a bayonet charge and was last seen engaged in a fierce hand-to-hand struggle against overwhelming enemy odds. For most conspicuous bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross on May 21, 1918.
