Actor. He began his acting career in his 50s, and was known for playing homeless or crusty old men, being regularly cast by motion picture director Tim Burton and comedian Adam Sandler in several of their films. He first appeared in 1969 in 'Wild Gypsies'. Other films he appeared in were 'Capone' (1975), 'On the Nickel' (1980), 'Escape from New York' (1981), '10 to Midnight' (1983), 'The Ice Pirates' (1984), 'The Sure Thing' (1985), 'Pee-Wee's Big Adventure' (1985), 'Runaway Train' (1985), 'My Chaffeur' (1986), 'Who's That Girl' (1987), 'Beetlejuice' (1988), 'Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers' (1988), 'Harlem Nights' (1989), 'Wayne's World' (1992), 'The Beverly Hillbillies' (1993), 'Ed Wood' (1994), 'Meet Wally Sparks' (1997), 'The Wedding Singer' (1998) and 'Eight Crazy Nights' (2002). He made many guest appearances on TV shows, including 'Baretta', 'Barney Miller', 'Roseanne', 'Quantum Leap', 'Home Improvement', 'Married... with Children', 'Everybody Loves Raymond', 'Freebie and the Bean', 'Growing Pains', 'The Wayans Bros.' and 'Sabrina, the Teenage Witch'. Filpi died at the age of 80 from cancer-related illnesses.
