Elisabeth McNair Hanlon passed away peacefully in Hospice Care at Anne Arundel Medical Center on July 10th, 2012. Elisabeth was the youngest child of Frederick Vallette McNair, Jr. awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, and Agnes Duer McNair, and the granddaughter of Frederick Vallette McNair, Sr., Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy. She was the much loved Mother of her eight children, Eileen Loeb, Kevin Hanlon (d.1984), Andrew Hanlon, Anne Mackechnie, John Hanlon, Margaret Atwell, Fred Hanlon, and Will Hanlon. "Grandma Betsy" usually left her grandchildren Kevin and Eric Loeb, Dorothy and Marshall Hanlon, E.B. Mackechnie, Johann Schlager, and Fred McNair with a smile. She was the beloved wife of Lt. Col. E.W. Hanlon, who died in 1989. Mom provided us with much humor and laughter, and will be missed. In addition, she is survived by her older sister, Janet Hatch of Pennsylvania, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a celebration of her life at the home of Anne and Bill Mackechnie, 314 Hillsmere Drive, Annapolis, MD 21403, on Sunday, August 12 from 2-5 PM.
