Leo was born in Festina, Iowa, in 1915. He worked the family farm and helped in construction through 1941, when he enlisted in the U.S Army.
With the Army, he saw over two years of combat in the South Pacific.
After the war he served a year in France and was then posted in El Paso, TX, where he met Alice Roth, his wife of 56 years.
He further served the Army in Ethiopia and Missouri before retiring in 1964. From 1965 to 1982 he worked for Swindell Dressler in Pittsburgh.
His second retirement saw the establishment of a home in Vero Beach and years of activity there on behalf of the Coralstone Condominium Association.
The last of his generation, he was predeceased by four sisters, one brother, and three half-sisters.
