He moved to Los Angeles in 1973 and opened his exclusive boutique, House of Bijan, on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills in 1976 where he established his global business empire by designing seasonal collections as well as complete wardrobes for the most powerful, well-heeled men in the world. Heads of state, presidents, captains of industry, movie stars, kings and emperors were among his clients. His legendary 'by-appointment-only' showroom is also headquarters for his worldwide commercial empire, which includes jewelry, accessories, fragrances and the interior design of luxury automobiles, yachts, helicopters and airplanes all using his signature shade, Bijan Yellow. In 2010, a design collaboration agreement between the House of Bijan and Rolls Royce Motor cars as well as Bugatti was established. His fragrance bottles for both men and women are known for their distinctive circular shape - one each of these perfume bottles is in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Institution. In 1989 he was inducted into the International Designer Hall of Fame. Bijan, who was one of few Iranians in the media limelight who was still permitted to enter Iran, died two days after suffering a stroke at his Beverly Hills home.
