Greensboro resident enjoyed hunting and playing pool

John M. Stoneking, 90, of Greensboro R.D.1, died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, February 26, 2006, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.

He was born March 14, 1915, in Elk View, W.Va., a son of Alvin and Effie Carpenter Stoneking.

Mr. Stoneking had resided in Monongahela Township since 1997 and was a social member of VFW Post 6303 in Greensboro. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid pool player and member of the Greene County Pool League.

He had worked as a truck driver for Ira Donley Jr. prior to 1960. He then moved to Kirtland, Ohio, where he worked for Parker Hannefin Corp. until returning to Greene County in 1997.

On August 19, 1939, he married Juanita Roberts, who died December 4, 1994.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth G. Stoneking and wife Paula of Mt. Morris and John Alvin Stoneking, with whom he made his home; two daughters, Carolyn Serrano and husband Roy of Tucson, Ariz., and Theresa A. Pierce and husband Ray of Kirtland; eight grandchildren, Pauletta Moore, Susan Turner, Olan Stoneking, Phillip Stoneking, Andrea Pierce, Elizabeth Brown, Michelle Clark and Shawn Habian; 13 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Elizabeth Dusenberry of Dilliner, Evelyn Keeney of St. Albans, W.Va., Irma Hamilton of Madison, Ohio and Vonnie Donley and husband Charles of McKeesport; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, James Stoneking; and a grandson, Kenneth G. Stoneking, Jr.

Family and friends are welcomed from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels (724-966-5500), where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, with the Rev. Erwin "Woody" Wilson and the Rev.
