Cecil R. Farrar, Jr., passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010. He was born June 18, 1930 in Salinas, Calif, to Cecil and Ida Farrar.

Cecil graduated from Watsonville High School and attended Hartnell Junior College in Salinas, Calif. majoring in Diesel engineering.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1950, spending three years at the United States Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, Calif., and one year at sea as a Boiler Tender. He was honorable discharged in October, 1954.

Cecil worked in the welding field for 45 years as a welder and welding engineer for Ameron International located in Monterey Park, Calif. The last 10 years of Cecil's career, he worked as a Licensed Deputy Building Inspector for Smith-Emery Company of Los Angeles.

He cherished every moment visiting with his grandchildren, family, and neighbors he became close to over the years. He especially enjoyed his visits with Maggie and Kelly. Cecil was Past Master of Granada Masonic Lodge #608, and Past Associate Guardian of Jobs Daughter International, Bethel #210, both located in Alhambra, California.

Cecil was married for 56 years to Dorothy M. Farrar. They were married February 20, 1954.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son and daughter in-law, Mark and Sonia Farrar of Chula Vista; daughter, Rhonda Valverde of Norco, Calif.; grandchildren and their spouses, Sean and Shalene of Riverside, Josh and Katie Simpson of Riverside, Jeff Farrar of Norco, Allyson Valverde of Norco, Kevin Melim of Chula Vista, Ryan Griffin of Poway; and his great-grandson, Joshua Simpson of Riverside. Private services were held on June 14, 2010.
