Ethiopian Prime Minister. Born Legesse Zenawi Asras, he led Ethiopia since 1991, when commanding the guerrilla group "Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front" (EPRDF), overthrew the dictatorship of Mengistu Haile Mariam, leader of the pro-sovietic military junta that ruled the country from 1974 to 1987 and then president of the country until 1991. Zenawi, was president from 1991 to 1995, after which he became as prime minister. He was one of Africa's strongmen, and a key ally of America in the war on terrorism in the "Horn of Africa". Cause of death: cancer.
