T/5 William T. Bowden was a soldier in the 531st Engineer Shore Regiment and was severely wounded in Sicily during the so-called operation Husky. This operation started on 10 July 1943. T/5 Bowden was evacuated to North Africa and died of his sustained wounds in a hospital in Algeria. He was buried in the temporary American EL ALIA Cemetery in Algeria. After the war his remains were repatriated and buried in a cemetery in the Allegheny County in Pennsylvania.
