Southside Signal, Babylon, NY, Friday, August 24, 1889:
Mr. J. Milton Ferry, Sr. died on Wednesday afternoon of this week at his home, corner of Park and Carll Avenues, this village, after a long illness. His death was the result of a cancer of his tongue from which he suffered for a long time. Mr. Ferry first came to Babylon some ten years ago, when he boarded with his family at the Sumpwama House. Later he purchased the property at the corner of Park and Carll Avenues where he spent a large part of each year. He was formerly engaged in the stationery business in New York, but of late years had devoted much of his time to horticulture. He was a great lover of flowers and fruits, and delighted in cultivating them. Of late years, Mr. Ferry had been almost totally blind the result of cataracts having formed over his eyes. During the Civil War the deceased was a member of the Union Army, and served with bravery and fidelity. He was a Democrat in politics. He was well known both in New York and Babylon and had a wide circle of friends. He leaves a widow and seven children- four sons and three daughters. The funeral services will be held at his late residence tomorrow (Saturday) morning. The interment will be in Greenwood.
