Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the service at Riga, Monroe County, New York. He served as a Brevet Major in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Captain in Company C, 22d New York Cavalry for action at Waynesboro, Virginia on March 2, 1865. He was issued the Medal of Honor on March 26, 1865. His citation reads "Capture of Gen. Early's headquarters flag. Confederate national standard."
