Worked as a cub reporter, in Boston. Endowed with 'a nose for news' and a natural aptitude for writing, he soon earned a name for himself and while in his early twenties was called to Washington to take the City Editorship of the Washington Times. Later he became Managing Editor of Popular Mechanics and in 1915 accepted the publishership of Photoplay Magazine, which was a leading publication in its field. Introduced Joe Kennedy to Hollywood and Gloria Swanson. Was married to Elizabeth North, had three children, Frances Denton and Jean North and a son who was still born, James. (Later married May Allison, silent film actress, who retired in 1924.) Died suddenly of a heart attack in August 1932.
