Professional Baseball Player. A pitcher and outfielder, she is remembered for her four year career in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). Raised in The Bronx, she manifested her talent early, playing competitive softball from a young age. After graduating from Pennsylvania's East Stroudsburg State Teachers College she was working as a teacher when she requested a tryout with the AAGPBL; signed by the South Bend Blue Sox for 1946 she played in the outfield as she did for the Ft. Wayne Daisies in 1947. Returning to South Bend in 1948 she was tried as a pitcher and had her most productive campaign, winning nine games while losing four and having an E.R.A. of 1.65. Marie spent 1949 with the Muskegon Lassies before retiring with final totals of 10 wins and 11 losses with a 2.11 E.R.A. on the mound and a .248 batting average. Returning to South Bend she served for 38 years as a teacher and coach at Clay High School. In 1988 she was part of the mass induction of the AAGPBL and its players into the Baseball Hall of Fame; the circuit's story is told in the 1992 feature "A League of Their Own". Marie remained active until well along in years and died of the effects of advanced age.
