Homer E. Worrel 76, of Woodbine Ave. Northport NY, passed away at Huntington Hospital on Jun. 14 1965. He had lived in Northport for more than 25 years. He was born Sept. 22 1888 in St. Louis MO. (P.O.B. conflict)

Homer was a career soldier and veteran of the Great War. He first enlisted in Fort Wayne IN on May 16 1906 and served until Jun. 4 1920, 14 years 19 days. He earned five Honorable Discharges and a Certificate Of Furlough Regular Army Reserve. Homer served in the Philippine Islands during his 1st and 2nd enlistment, stateside during his 3rd and 4th enlistment, in the Mexico Punitive Expedition and France, Aug. 24 1818 to Mar. 5 1819, during his 5th enlistment. He was an excellent Horseman. Homer's final rank and assignment was 1st Sergeant Troop F 5th Cavalry. Homer's brothers, Frank E. Worrel, John H. Worrel and Harry G. Worrel also served in the army.

Homer worked at L.I.L. Co. for 8 years. He worked as a Guard, shield #290, and as a janitor in the Electric Operating Department at Northport until he retired Oct. 1 1953. He had also worked as a Deputy Sheriff and Port Captain after his service in the army. Before his enlistment, Homer worked as a Glass Blower for the Skillen-Goodin Glass Co.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the Brueggeman Funeral Home in East Northport. The Rev. Donald Guarnere, of Christ Baptist Church in Commack, officiated at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment was in Long Island National Cemetery at Pinelawn.

Survivors included a son, Robert H. Worrel of East Northport; a daughter, Gloria Webster of California and three grandchildren. Three sisters, Bertha M. Chrisman, Clora E. Quire and Harriette F. Flynn and a brother Harry G. Worrel also survived him. Homer's parents, Emanuel and Charity (Maynard) Worrel, his wife, Matilda Dorathea (Knorr) Worrel and his brothers, Frank and John preceded him.
