Ensign E. B. Slocum, USNR, was designated Naval Aviator #8339 in 1941. Entered active service via the pre-war Aviation Cadet (AVCAD) program.

Lieut. Slocum, along with three other servicemen were killed when his single-engine Howard GH-2 Nightingale ambulance aircraft crashed on takeoff from the airstrip. Left, besides his parents, a wife and young daughter.
