Author. Among his works are "Las estratagemas de Dios" (Xavier Villaurrutia prize 1988), "El indeleble caso de Borelli", "Las controversias de la fé" and "La rosa transfigurada". He was awarded the National Prize of Sciences and Arts in linguistics in 2003 and the Gold Medal of Fine Arts in 2007, and was a full member of the Mexican Academy of Language. He also was awarded International Menéndez Pelayo prize in 2012.
