Elmira (as "Lavinia E. Anderson") married Adam Daugherty in Indiana on October 12, 1866. The couple had two children John W. and Pearl L. before Adam's death, presumably in Indiana around 1879.

"After suffering for three years, Mrs. Elmira Daugherty, mother of [two] known in this city, died Wednesday night at her home on East Washington street, Benton Harbor. She was 71 years of age.
A son, J. W. Daugherty and several children, a daughter, Miss Pearl Daugherty, who has been in constant attendance during her mother's long illness, and a brother and three sisters survive.
The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed."
