Funeral services for Mrs. B. Frank (Rose A.) McComas, 85, Woodburn resident who died at a Woodburn nursing home last week Wednesday after a long illness, were held Monday afternoon at Ringo-Cornwell Funeral Chapel. George Springer, pastor of the Christian church, officiated. Burial was at Belle Passi cemetery.

Mrs. McComas was born July 31, 1873, at Denver, Mo. She had lived in Woodburn since 1928, except for five years in San Francisco. She had been a member of the Christian church 68 years and belonged to the Woodburn Christian church.

Mrs. McComas began her teaching career at the age of 18 in country schools near Denver. She later took leave to attend Baker university in Baldwin, Kan. She also did summer work at various universities and colleges. Among the places she taught school were Fort Meyer, Col., Arcadia, Fla., Dennison, Mo., Alexandria, S.D., and Big Timber, Mont. It was at Big Timber that she married and lived on a ranch for 11 years.

In Montana the McComas family lived on an Indian reservation where her Indian name was "Sweet Singer" because of her musical talent. One of her pupils there was a grandchild of a Crow Indian chief.

Survivors include the widower to whom she married December 27, 1902; a daughter, Mrs. Myrna Iden of San Diego, Cal.; two brothers, W. C. Maupin of Iola, Kan., and Olin Maupin of Los Gatos, Cal.; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle MacLean of Reedspoint, Mont., and Mrs. P. F. Gately of Lewisburg, Kan.; one granddaughter and two great grandchildren. Their son died at the age of 14.
