Died from a fall into a trench.
Note: According to his niece, Kimothy Gragg, he went into the ditch to help a man who was allergic to bees "... then the cable holding the pipe broke and it fell on top of him. He lived for nine days afterwards in a coma. He did wake up, though with tears in his eyes, before God called him home. He was a preacher at New Hope Baptist church in High Point, N.C., and a good and loving father of three children, Joey Lee Byrd, Tony Dewayne Byrd, and Sandra Darlene Byrd all of N.C." Kimothy also says that her uncle Lee was well known as "Pioneer".
