A James W. Riley of Preston county married Louisa E. Cool, daughter of John H. Cool on 3 April 1873. His age was 19 years, hers 17 years. Her surname was spelled without an "e" for this record, but her father is buried with the surname having a "e". He was buried with his second wife at Cobun cemetery, memorial # 108443130.

In the 1880 census James and Louisa had daughters Ida and Dicie, and son Asa in the household.

In 1900, James was married to Adeline, also in the 1910 and 1920 censuses.
James died at Tunnelton, 3 Mar 1920, age 66. The death record gives occupation as trackman; it is signed by Dr. Rankin.
Burial was on 5 Mar 1920.
