Enlisted , Back Creek,Berkeley County, Virginia, now WV, August , 1777, as a private in Gabriel Longs Company in Colonel Rawlings 11th Virginia Regiment, Continental Line. He was engaged in the battle of Brandywine, and soon after was made wagon master, in which capacity he served under til 1780.
Applied for pension, August 27, 1882. Certificate issued, December 5, 1882, Monongahelia County. Statement of Captain G.P. cotton, U.S.A.,47 Montgomery Street, Jersey City , NJ. In the line mentionsJames Cotton and Nicholas Hageras being connected with the family.
