Edward Adrian Wilson
Birth: Jul. 23, 1872
Death: Mar. 29, 1912

Explorer. A native of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, he was also a naturalist, ornithologist, and physician. Educated at Cheltenham College, Cambridge University and later Gonville and Caius College, he first took part in British Explorations to the Antarctica from 1901 to 1904, as part of Sir Robert Falcon Scott's expedition team, on board the "Discovery". On that expedition Wilson served as Scott's Junior Surgeon and Zoologist. He was later asked by explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton to join him on an expedition in 1907, but declined, instead rejoining Scott on another expedition in 1910, as his Chief of the Scientific Staff. In 1911 he traveled to Cape Crozier in search of penguin embryos, and again with Scott and three others on another expedition to the South Pole on January 18, 1912. On the return trip on March 29, 1912, all five men froze to death. The Edward Wilson Primary School in Paddington, London, England, was named in his memory. (bio by: K)
