The Climax, Richmond, Ky. 3-11-1896: Prominent Lawyer Dead.
Hon. George C. Lockhart, of Paris, died Monday evening of cancer of the bowels. He was taken to Cincinnati, recently with supposed appendicitis, but Drs. Johnston and Ramey made an incision and found that the trouble was cancer. The incision was then closed, and he was told that nothing could be done for him.
Mr. Lockhart was one of Kentucky's ablest lawyers, and became well known here while an attorney in the heated contests over the R. N. I. & B. right of way. He married Miss Florence Kelly, who has visited here, a sister of Miss Virgie Kelly now Mrs. Mehagan, so well known here. The Misses Kelly's father was Rev. Sam Kelly, a prominent Methodist minister, and their brother is Rev. Gilby Kelly another able minister. Information provided by contributor #47701677.
