TUPPER LAKE - Ruth LaFave, 95, of Tupper Lake, passed away, Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at the Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake.
Ruth was born in Waterbury, Vt. on Sept. 19, 1916, the daughter of Samuel and Marcelline (Belair) Clark. She grew up in Tupper Lake and surrounding areas.
On July 3, 1934, she married Gedeon E. LaFave of Tupper Lake at St. Paul's church in Piercefield. They moved to Buffalo in 1953 where she was employed at Trico Manufacturing until she retired and moved back to Tupper Lake in the mid-1960s. After retirement, she worked at Sunmount on the Grandparents program for 26 years and won several awards; she loved working with the kids. Ruth was a member of the St. Anne's Society and enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by her daughter Sally Smith and son-in-law Earl Smith; granddaughter Susan Lyons; great-grandsons: Matthew, Justin and Jared Lyons; great-great grandson Jess Michael Lyons, all of Canandaigua; one son Gedeon J. LaFave; granddaughter Ann LaFave; grandson Gedeon LaFave Jr.; great-granddaughter Cassandra, all of Glen Falls; one sister Gertrude Dewyea of Tupper Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Gedeon in 1972 and her grandson Mark A. Smith in 2004.
Calling hours are scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17 at St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
