Samuel Rector Hieronymus was the son of:
Johann Frantz (Francis) Hieronymus, born in Lorsbach, Germany 24 September 1729 – died in Clark County, Kentucky, 1815 and Elizabeth Rector, born in Fauquier County, Virginia, 14 December 1744 – died in Clark County, Kentucky.
Samuel Rector Hieronymus was born, 16 September 1786 in Loudoun County, Virginia and died, 22 September 1866 in Owsley (now Lee) County, Kentucky.
He married first, Nancy Elkins born ca. 1801 in Kentucky, they were married 13 September 1821, she died 2 September 1823 in Kentucky.
They had one son: Francis Hieronymus, born 6 November 1822, died 1884 in Lamar, Missouri. Married, Anna Bush.
Samuel Hieronymus married second, Sally White, born ca. 1809 in Mercer County, Kentucky, and died 27 January 1871 in Lee County, Kentucky. They were married, 7 October 1828 in Kentucky.
Sally White was the daughter of Whitfield White and Judy (Boston) White.

Thomas Frye Hieronymus, born 16 August 1837, Estill County, Kentucky, died, 8 February 1900, Lee County, Kentucky. Married, Tandy Bush.
Judith Emily (Hieronymus) Nickell, born 16 April 1841, Breathitt County Kentucky, died, 21 May 1900.
In 1837, Samuel and Sally Hieronymus moved from Madison County to Breathitt County (now Lee) by Flat Boat by way of the Kentucky River. Going up the Middle Fork of the river they stopped at Blink's Branch at what is still known as the Hieronymus Ford near Grays Bend.
There Samuel and his brother-in-law, B. Franklin White, had purchased a large tract of land and started farming. Samuel took boat loads of tobacco down the Kentucky river to the Ohio and then the Mississippi river to New Orleans and then walked back home. He also raised and sold horses at market.
It is interesting to note that after his move from Madison County to the land he acquired in what is now Lee County, that he lived the rest of his life in the same location. But because of the creation of the counties of Kentucky he is found in the following census records.
1830 Federal census, Madison County, wife and two children.
1840 Federal census, Breathitt County, wife and five children.
1850 Federal census, Owsley County, wife and all six of his children plus his daughter Nancy's husband, Charles Davis and their two children, James and Charles.
1860 Federal census, Owsley County, with his wife Sally and his two children Thomas and Judith (on this record, Judith appears as J.E.)
The 1860 census for Owsley County Kentucky shows him as a Farmer whose property is valued at $3,500 and his personal property valued at $1,500.
The same property is now located in Lee County.
