Lula Carolina Austin Salyer was the daughter of Martha Ellen Meade Austin and William Aston Austin. She married Gilbert Salyer. She is buried in the W. A. Austin Cemetery along with her parents, her children and some of her siblings. Lula and Gilbert had two babies that were born and died on same day. She and Gilbert had one son, Scott W. Salyer (1931-1951) that served in the Army and was killed in Korea during the war. Out from Lula's stone in the cemetery are the two graves for the babies and along side of them, Lula's husband, Gilbert, placed a small stone that reads "SWS." Although, their son, Scott, was buried elsewhere, he wanted this rememberance to be here with the other children and Lula.

NOTE: West Virginia Death Index 1853-1973 lists her name as Lula Carolina Slayer, then underneath they have "Lula Carolina Austin." They do spell her husband, Gilbert's name as Gilbert Salyer and also list her Mother as Ellen Austin and her Dad as William Austin.

Martha Ellen Meade Austin was born April 8, 1873 and she passed away Jan. 17, 1961. She was married to William "Bill" Aston Austin on March 10, 1988. Bill was born March 4, 1865 and died January 5, 1921.

Martha E. Austin was born May 1900 in Dickenson Co., Va.

Hattie Mae Austin (born 05/25/1902 in Dickenson Co., Va., died 10/26/1918, married Arnold Austin.);

Walter L. Austin (born 08/19/1904 in Russell Co., Va., married ______ Jessee, had children Mary Ellen and Fred.
