Herbert Smith Johnson, Sr. was born in Shirley, VA, November 3, 1921. He was the third child born to Henderson Taylor and Mattie (Hall) Johnson. His siblings were: Walter P., Rettie L., Haney B., and George W.
Mr. Johnson served in the United States Navy and was in Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 when it was attacked by the Japanese. He also was a former Findlay Fire Chief for the Findlay Fire Department in Findlay, OH and a retired Cooper Tire and Rubber Company supervisor.
He married Gloria Anna Connor on November 22, 1944 in Newport Rhode Island, and together they had four children: Herbert Smith, Jr., Patricia Ann, John Edwin, and Becky Sue.(Patricia and John proceeded him in death).He also had four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
At the time of his death, he resided in Beaumont, TX, and had been a resident there for 16 years. His funeral arragements were handled by Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, TX. He was cremated and his ashes are in the personal possession of his son, Herbert Johnson, Jr.
