George Borneman, 70, who spent 41 years of his life as a superintendent of schools, died January 9 at Memorial Hospital. He had suffered a stroke, the second in two years, 10 days earlier. Borneman came to Forest Lake after his retirement five years ago as superintendent of schools at Tracy. In earlier years he was superintendent at Clinton, Plainview and Olivia. Borneman had become active in community affairs here. He served as a member of the Forst Lake Village Police Commission. His other activities included education chairman for the Cancer Society, membership on Faith Lutheran Church Council, and Masonic Lodge 344 of Forest Lake. Borneman also was a member of Masonic Lodge 155 at Tracy. Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Howard Ruggles, Forest Lake; and six grandchildren; a brother; and a sister. A son John P. Borneman, preceded him in death. Mr. Borneman was born December 2, 1898, in St. Peter, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Borneman. He attended school in St. Peter and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Gustavus Adolphus College. Later, he earned a master's degree at the University of Minnesota. On December 1, 1923, he married Anne C. Hallberg in Minneapolis. Services were January 13 at Faith Lutheran Church, the Rev. Frank Johnson officiating. Burial was in St. Peter.
