Professional Wrestler. Born in New York City, New York, he was a heavy weight wrestler known as "Man Mountain Dean" who appeared in 6,783 wrestling matches from (1902 to 1937). While serving in the United States Army, he began his wrestling career and after World War I, embarked on a career in athletics. In addition to his previous bouts in the military, he was soon a popular showman on the pro circuit and even toured Europe, commanding fees upwards of $1,500 for each match. He was cast in various roles in twelve feature films such as "The Private Life of Henry VIII" (1933), "The Garden of Allah" (1936) and "The Gladiator" (1938). In 1937, he retired from the ring but with the advent of World War II, he re-joined the United States Army and despite his age, obtained the rank of First Sergeant of the Military Intelligence Training Center at Camp Ritchie, Maryland.
