He was raised in Hopkins County, TX with his 12 brothers and sisters. They were farmers and enjoyed the life in a large family. He joined Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sulphur Springs where he served as elder and teacher. He loved the rich East Texas soil for his garden and helped others with construction projects. He loved the time he spent with his musical group entertaining at nursing homes in the area: singing and playing all of his instruments. He was very soft spoken and genuinely kind. He loved his family and cherished the time spent at family reunions.
