College Football Player, Journalist. A pioneering football great, he played for the University of Chicago from 1903 to 1906 (freshmen were eligible to play varsity sports at the time). His drop-kicking and leadership abilities helped the team to become a powerhouse and to snap the University of Michigan's 56-game winning streak in 1905. As a result, Chicago were the conference champions that year and were later recognized as the college national champions. After his playing days, he was a sportswriter for the "Chicago Tribune" and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
