Born Rosalie Jolivet to the late Bartholomew Jolivet and Rebecca Abbs in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, Sister Mary Madeline Sophie Jolivet entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family on March 11, 1932, professed her first vows on September 24, 1935 and made her perpetual profession on September 24, 1941.

During her eighty years as a Sister of the Holy Family, Sister Mary Madeline served in the following ministries: St. John Berchmans Home for Girls, Notre Dame Seminary, Lafon Nursing Facility, all in New Orleans, Louisiana; Immaculata Seminary, Lafayette, Louisiana; Holy Family, Covington, Lousiana; Our Mother of Mercy, Houston, Texas; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Lafayette, Louisiana; and the prayer ministry of the Sisters of the Holy Family at the Motherhouse where she was a valued member of the prayer ministry.

Sister passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Lafon Nursing Facility, at the venerable age of 97. Interment was held at St. Louis #2 immediately following the funeral ceremonies. By the time of her death, she was the oldest member of the Sisters of the Holy Family.
