U.S. Congressman. Born on a farm in Midlothian, Texas, he taught school, graduated from the law department of the University of Texas, in 1890, was admitted to the bar the and commenced to practice law in Waxahachie, Texas. He was a member of the Texas State House of Representatives, (1892-95) and served in the Texas State Senate, (1895-99). In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1915. After leaving Congress, he became a law partner with M.D. Templeton and Tony B. Williams, was president of the Dallas Union Trust Company and served as president of the Texas Electric Railway. He died of a heart attack at age 62 in Dallas, Texas.
