Welsh-born film director, actor, screenwriter, playwright, songwriter, and poet. Jane Arden was born in Wales and went to live in London when she was a teenager. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and started writing plays about female suppression which led to an acting career. It was during this time she met and married Philip Saville who was a director, actor and writer himself. They had two children, Sebastian and Dominic. Philip had a daughter from a previous marriage named Elizabeth. Jane got involved in the Women's Liberation Movement. She appeared on TV talk shows as a speaker on Women's rights and politics. Amongst her works, she is noted for her original script and performance in "Separation" (1968). One of her poetry books was called, "You Don't Know What You Want, Do You?" Sadly, Ms. Arden took her own life at the age of 55 in North Yorkshire, England.
