Neva Irene Maltbie, age 87, of Hurdland, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at her home under the care of Hospice. She was born September 7, 1925, in Kirksville, MO, the daughter of William Standley and Pearl Kent Strait. She was united in marriage to Earl L. Maltbie, Jr., February 21, 1948, in Edina, Missouri. Surviving is her husband, Earl L. Maltbie, Jr. of Hurdland, MO, a son Earl L. Maltbie III of Hurdland, MO, two daughters, Kathy Hampton of Houston, TX and Joyce Sutton and husband James of Unionville, MO, seven grandchildren Terry and Corey Eiler, Isaiah and DaMar Hampton, Curtis and Albert Sutton and Laura Beth (Sutton) DeWeese, eight great grandchildren, one sister Eveline Sykes of Hurdland, MO, several nieces and nephews. Neva was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Sandra Jo Maltbie and one brother Stanley Strait, three sisters Josephine Babcock, Margaret Sykes and Louise Hodges. Neva graduated Valedictorian at Hurdland High School Class of 1944. She was employed at Hollister's in Kirksville for seventeen years. She was a member of the Classy Lassy Red Hats. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, her hummingbirds and spending time with her family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2012, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Officiating the services will be Chaplin Carol Davenport. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Hurdland, MO. Musical selections will be Amazing Grace and Tears In Heaven. Casket bearers will be Eugene Yoakum, Larry Sykes, Dennis Sykes, Marty Sykes, Max Mayer and Rex Barker. Honorary bearers will be Red Hat Sisters. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2012, till time of service at 11 a.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
