A Mass for Helen Even (nee Menke), 90, a longtime resident of Fox Lake and the Lakeland Apts., will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Bede Catholic Church, 36544 N. Wilson Road, Ingleside. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. Thursday, at K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road (one block west of Route 12, &@#189; block north of Grand Ave), Fox Lake (The Chapel on the Lake).
Born June 20, 1915, in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Susie (nee Koenig) Menke, she died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Wisconsin. Helen was the eldest member of the Fox Lake Lioness Club. She was formerly employed as a customer service manager for Wards Department Store in Waukegan. She was a past president and member for more than 50 years of the Fox Lake Lioness Club. She was also a member of St. Bede Catholic Church and their Altar and Rosary Society, and the Red Hat Society. She was very social and enjoyed entertaining, playing cards, boating, swimming and raising her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse T. Even in 1966; and sister, Catherine Forbes in 2004. Memorials for the Fox Lake Lioness Club, P.O. Box 398, Fox Lake, IL 60020, would be appreciated by the family. For information‚ (847)587-2100.
