MINGO JUNCTIN - Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church for John P. (Springy) Ciafardone, 66, of 101 Hull Ave., a retired Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. employee and former village councilman. The Rev. John Kilesar will officiate and entombment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville.
Mr. Ciafardone, who served on the Mingo Junction Planning Commission, died Tuesday in Las Vegas, while visiting relatives.
He was a Democratic Central committeeman and a member of St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 421, where he was a past state officer, Mingo Booster's Club, Knights of Columbus, Knights of St. George and the Royal Neighbors.
John was born in Mingo Junction, Ohio, the son of Santo "Sam" Ciafardone (1901–1916) and Loretta (Merla) Ciafardone Cinti (1884–1950).
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sue Marcinko Ciafardone; three sons, Sam and Phillip, both of Mingo Junction, and John M. of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Lorraine) Golec of Mingo Junctin and Miss Lorretta Ciafardone of Las Vegas; a brother, Donald Alberts of Buffalo, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Emilio (Sundae) Julian of Steubenville, and 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
