John Cuppett was about twenty-two and Susannah Spahr was about sixteen when they married about 1796 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.

The 1810 census revealed they were living in St. Clair, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Household members: Jno Cupbet (26-44), Susanna (26-44), two males (10-15), John, Daniel & Jacob (under 10), Elizabeth (10-15) and Susanna, Catherine & Mary (under 10).

The 1820 census of August 7, revealed four household members were engaged in agriculture and two were engaged in manufacturing. Household members: John Cuppet (45 & up), Susanna (26-44), John (19-25), Daniel (16-18), Jacob (10-15), Henry (under 10), Elizabeth (16-25), Catherine & Mary (10-15) and Sarah, Esther & Lucy (under 10).

They moved to Virginia sometime after their daughter, Julia was born in April 1821.

The 1830 census revealed they were living in Preston County, Virginia. Household members: John Cuppet Sr. (50-59), Susanna (50-59), Lucin (10-14), one female (20-29), Sarah & Ester (15-19) and Julia (5-9). Their son, John lived next door and son, Daniel lived two doors away. Their son Jacob lived next door on the other side.

The 1840 census revealed household members: John Cappel (60-69), Susanna (60-69), Henry (20-29) and Julia (15-19). Their son, Daniel lived next door, son, Jacob lived two doors away and John lived three doors away. Their daughter, Ester Garlock and family lived next door on the other side.

The 1850 census of November 8, revealed they were living with their son, Henry and family in District 45, Preston County, Virginia. They were both born in Pennsylvania. Susanna could not read or write. Household members: John Cuppett (79), Susanna (73), Henry (34), Drusilla (35), Sarah F. (4) and Lee S. (3). Their son, Jacob lived three doors away.
