Richard Green Womack is the son of Henry Pryor Womack and Temperance (Taylor) Womack. He married Nancy Elizabeth (Shelton-Taylor) Womack also known as Betty Taylor Womack) on Nov 22, 1870 in Lincoln County, TN. Together they had five children: William R. Womack, Richard J. Womack, Horace Greely Womack, Sr., Dora (Womack) Erckert and Grace (Womack) Harvey. At the time of his death he lived at 7414 Sloss Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama and was 84 years old and widowed at the time of his death.

He had three brothers: John A. Womack, Henry P. Womack and David S. Womack and two sisters: Lucy C. (Womack) Taylor and Marintha A. Womack.

Richard enlisted in the Civil War on April 29, 1861 and served in the 1st Tennessee Regimental Unit, Company H. The Alabama Department of Archives and History show his address as 7414 Slass Avenue, Birmingham, Al at the time of his enlistment. Richard had farmed and was also a store clerk. Richard Green Womack is buried at the Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL.
