Cdr. Don E. Laird USN93 passed away September 21, 2012 after an extended illness to parents Lee David and Telena Laird Holstein, NE. Don was a Navy Carrier pilot awarded a distinguished flying cross- Asiatic Pacific Silver Star-Torpedo pilot type instructor V.T-97- Air Traffic Controller-Navigator MSS Guritook AV-7. Retired in 1962, worked for Stone & Webster Co. Boston Massachusetts. Don and his wife Dorothy moved to Sawgrass Country Club Ponte Vedra Beach Florida in 1982. He was a member of the Sawgrass Mens Golf Club. Also a volunteer Marshall for thirteen years at the Tournament Players Club. Don was a private person who loved his family and his country-part of the greatest generation. He was the wind beneath our wings. We will me him, may he rest in peace. Survivors include his devoted wife and best friend Dorothy of sixty seven years, his son Bruce Laird NFL All-Pro and wife Mary, former wife Leandra, grandchildren Matthew and wife Lizzie, Michael and Christopher and great-grandchild Noah-Towson, MD., daughter Janet Frakenfield, husband Ron Norwell Mass, grandchildren Lee- wife Tricia-Ross, NH- great grandchild Cara Frakenfield, N.J., nieces and nephews. Full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at later date. In lieu of flowers family requests donations to Fleet Landing Endowment Fund.
