U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Milton Academy Massachusetts, in 1935, Harvard College, in 1939 and was a member of the 170th Cavalry, Ohio National Guard, (1939-41). During World War II, he served on the staff of C-2 section V Amphibious Corps, U.S. Marines, in the Pacific Theatre. After the war, he attended the Western Reserve University Law School, was admitted to the bar in 1947 and began a law practice in Cleveland, Ohio. He was chairman of Ohio Young Republicans, (1948-51), plus publisher of Lake County News Herald and the Daily Reporter. In 1953, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-third and to the Eighty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1957 and elected to the Eighty-eighth Congress, serving (1963-65). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was a partner with investment bankers, Prescott, Merrill, Turben & Company until his death at age 55.
