Bill was born and lived most of his life in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the youngest of four brothers. His parents were strong and talented individuals who contributed much to the Birmingham community. His father was a developer-builder who built in the Highland Hills area. After the early death of his father, his mother raised the four boys on her own during the depression. Bill was a WWII veteran. For many years he worked at the Jefferson Co. courthouse as an accountant. Bill was happily married to Grace Jean Murphy Garrett. She was the light of his life and brought him much joy.
Bill is survived by his loving family, son John Franklin Garrett; daughter, Lynn Garrett Alkire and husband John of Raleigh; granddaughter Beverly Alkire of California; grandson John Alkire and wife Ripple and two beautiful great-grandchildren Samuel and Riley Grace of Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham, Ala. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
