*** Captain Marshall was a member of 1131st Special Activities Squadron. On September 5, 1965, he was the pilot of an Attack Aircraft Skyraider (A-1) that took off from Bien Hoa airbase, South Vietnam and was seen to crash with no ejections. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.

on September 5, 1965, Army Chief Warrant Officer William J. LaGrand was a passenger onboard an A1G aircraft which departed Bien Hoa.

CWO2 La Grand was a helicopter pilot with the 197th Aviation Company, 145th Aviation Battalion.

The pilot of the plane was Air Force Capt. Richard C. Marshall.

The aircraft was seen to crash and no ejections were observed from the aircraft prior to impact.

The area in which the aircraft went down was under hostile control at the time, and recovery and excavation attempts at the time were thwarted because of heavy enemy activity in the area.

Both LaGrand and Marshall were declared killed in action.
