Edward was the son of Elwyn Goodale and Rosanna (Jordan) Morse Goodale.
In 1903 he married Edith Woodward, daughter of Wesley Woodward and Jeanette Austin. They had no children. Edith died in 1938.
On Nov 10, 1948 in Claremont, NH he married Katie Idell (Whitcomb) Franklin, daughter of Lyman Whitcomb and Jane Glidden, and widow of Elmer Franklin.
