A New Year's baby, Felicia Tetro, known to everyone as "Nanny," was born January 1, 1925. She passed away last Thursday evening while surrounded by her family. She resided at 64 Bank Street in the Manhattan borough of New York City, New York at the time of her death.

The daughter of Rose and Mauro Tetro, (who married in the U.S., but immigrated with their families to New York through Ellis Island), Nanny was so small at birth, her mother put her in a shoebox.

As a girl, she would walk to school through New York's West Village and dream of one day living in a brownstone on Bank Street. When she married Salvatore Andriani ("Poppy") in May 1948, they started a print shop on New York's Hudson Street and from that shop they built a wonderful legacy for their family; and it wasn't long before they moved into Nanny's dream house on Bank Street.

A self-taught stock trader and a permanent fixture in the local real estate world, Nanny knew only how to provide the very best for her family. With her wicked sense of humor and razor-sharp memory, she was an exquisite self-made businesswoman- in the words of her older brother Willie, "she was one foxy woman."

All who knew her will remember her as fearless and brave; she pursued her dreams and simply made them happen. The matriarch of the family, an unrivaled success story and a quintessential representation of the American dream, Nanny was an indelible spirit, whose beautiful face and smile never seemed to age. There was always something wonderful cooking on the stove and spot-on worldly advice waiting for anyone who visited her.

Nothing was more important to her than her family and leaves behind a beautiful legacy: she is survived by her older brother, Vito Tetro (known as "Willie"), three children, Dr. Rudy Andriani and Nancy Caldwell of Greenwich, CT and Adrienne Hensley of Washington, DC, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of memories.

It was her wish to return to Greenwich, where she and Poppy shared memories with their children and grandchildren. She will rest side-by-side with her husband. This year would have marked their sixty-second wedding anniversary.

She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore Andriani ("Poppy"), her brother, Serafino Tetro (known as "Salvatore" or "Sal") and her sister, Rachel Tetro (known as "Rae").

A Funeral Procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT, at 12:20 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. in St. Catherine of Siena RC Church, 4 Riverside Avenue, Riverside, CT.
Burial will be private.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 23, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
