Sylvia Sobol Baamonde, 95, of Independence, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at her daughter’s home.
She was born at Bertha, WV on July 8, 1918, a daughter of the late John and Nellie Sobol.
Sylvia was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She enjoyed working on the family farm with her brother Alex, gardening and fishing. She also enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. Sylvia attended the St. Zita Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Krasco of Reedsville and Barbara Janeczko of Katonah, NY; one brother, Alex Sobol of Reedsville; five grandchildren, Lynn Simons and husband Stephen of Lakeland FL, Elizabeth Hirsch of NJ, Michael Hirsch and wife Stephanie of NJ, Lori Conklin and husband Steve of NJ and Jill Freedman and husband Andy of NY; ten great grandchildren, Katrina McKay and husband Tim, Jackie Simons, Aliza Bideau, Rebecca Hirsch, Ryan Hirsch, Michael Hirsch, Ronnie Molnar, Katie Molnar, Chris Conklin and Sarah Conklin; one great great grandchild, Adrian McKay and many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Manuel Baamonde; four sisters, Stella Kirkendall, Mary Vecchio, Frances Sitowski and Ann Liston.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a scripture prayer service to be held at 7 p.m.. A Catholic funeral service will be held at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Arthur Bufogle as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Masontown Cemetery.
