Captain James O. Adkins - A native of Enterprise, AL, a former resident of Nashville, TN for over 56 years, and a current resident of Mobile, died Sunday, February 22, 2009, in a local hospital. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He retired from American Airlines after 32 years of service as Captain. Capt. Adkins was also an instructor /check pilot for American Airlines Flight Academy. Capt. Adkins served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Windsor Tower Condominiums in Nashville for many years. In Mobile, he attended Christ United Methodist Church. Capt. Adkins was certified Lay Speaker with the United Methodist Church for many years. A loving and kind soul, Capt. Adkins was generous with this time and efforts, helping numerous charities and individuals. Capt. Adkins was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Frey Adkins, his wife of 62 years.

A memorial service will be held from Christ United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the church. Entombment will be in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens in Nashville, TN later in the week. Arrangements by RADNEY FUNERAL HOME, 3155 Dauphin St., Ext., Mobile, AL 36606.
